Atelier Lune
Fine jewellery, made to order
A bench, a window, and very few pieces.
Atelier Lune started in 1984 as a repair bench at the back of a watch shop on Rue Saint Paul. Marguerite Lune fixed clasps by day and cast her own rings at night, and after two winters the rings were paying the rent.
Not much has changed. We still work from one room in Old Montreal, still melt our own gold, and still say no more often than yes. Every piece is made to order for the person who will wear it, which takes about eight weeks and cannot really be rushed.
If you want a ring by Friday, we are the wrong house. If you want a ring your granddaughter argues over, come and see us.
Five pieces. That is the whole line.
Each one exists because a client asked for it and we could not stop thinking about it. Hover a piece to see it worn. Prices are starting points, in Canadian dollars, before stones.

Eight weeks, three chapters.
Nothing here is outsourced. The same hands that draw your piece will pour it, file it, and set it.
The drawing
It starts with a conversation and a pencil. We sketch with you at the bench, in your scale, on your hand. You leave with nothing and we redraw it until the line sits still. Most pieces take three drawings. Some take eleven.
Weeks one and two
The wax and the pour
The drawing becomes a carved wax, and the wax becomes gold in a single pour. We cast in small crucibles, one piece at a time, using metal we refine ourselves. If the pour is not clean we melt it and start again. Nobody is told. It just happens.
Weeks three to five
The stone and the setting
Setting is the slow part. A stone is cut once and set forever, so the seat is filed in passes you would need a loupe to see. Then the piece is finished by hand, signed inside, and photographed once for our records before it leaves.
Weeks six to eight
Come and sit at the bench.
Visits are private and unhurried. Bring the person the piece is for, or keep it a secret. Either way the kettle is on, the stones come out of the safe, and nobody will ask you to decide anything on the day.
